Gaylene is the epitome of everything you need in a coach. Passionate, patient and extremely player centered. Gaylene dedicates many nights and days of her week to coaching senior and college players to ensure they can be the best they can be. Gaylene is well planned and empathetic. Gaylene has a huge amount of knowledge and expertise from her years of netball coaching and always matches this with the goals of the players and the team as a whole. Gaylene has been coaching Netball in Te Awamutu for over 20 years.
Gaylene is a bold and courageous leader who always meets the needs of her players. Gaylene is always able to quickly identify when a player needs a little extra awhi or when a team needs some time out from intensity and training. Gaylene is an absolute advocate of fair play and consistently encourages her players to act with the utmost kindness and compassion on and off the court. Gaylene offers a climate of development in that court time is always shared, and developing players to reach their potential is always Gaylene's number one focus. Team culture is the heart of any team and this is something that Gaylene provides in abundance. Gaylene's favorite saying is 'a championship team will always beat a team of champion' and this is a motto that every team, in Gaylene's 20 years of coaching, lives by.

Gaylene was the founding member of College Old Girls netball about 20 years ago. Gaylene wanted a place for Te Awamutu College netball players to go and play together once they left school. To this day, this club is still thriving under Gaylene's coaching leadership. Player growth is evident of this in this club. With Te Awamutu College, Gaylene has not only gained significant results, but has students coming back year after year because of her. Gaylene consistently gains player voice, and acts on parent voice as well to ensure she is providing the best environment possible for players to excel both at netball and as a contributing person of society.
